FAQs
What time does school start?
School gates open at 8.30am for all children.
For children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children should be on the playground by 8:45am and the doors will open at 8.50am.
For children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 the doors are open between 8:40am and 8:50am for a soft start. The school doors and gates will be closed just after 8.50am.
How late is late?
All children KS1 – KS2 start school at 8.50am and children should be in school at this time. If a child arrives after 8.50am and up to 9.30am then a late mark (L) will be given.
If a child arrives after 9.30am then an unauthorised mark (U) will be given.
What should parents/carers do if their child is unwell?
Firstly, parents/carers must assess how unwell their child is. Children should not come to school if they are too unwell but headaches and tummy aches usually resolve themselves when they are in school with their friends.
How must I notify school about my child's absence?
Parents/carers must telephone school office NO LATER than 9am on the day the child is too unwell and will not be attending that day. Absence can also be reported on the Sacred Heart school website.
Parents/carers are expected to give the reason for absence and indicate if it is likely the child will be absent longer than one day. They should contact the school on each day of absence unless the absence has been agreed for more than one day as in cases of sickness and diarrhoea. Absence for genuine illness is always authorised. If a child has a pattern of regular absence the reasons for absence may be challenged or referred to our Education Welfare Officer.
