Sacred Heart Catholic Voluntary Academy

'A community rooted in Love, growing in Faith and Truth. Learning with Christ in our hearts.'

We are proud to work with all the Catholic schools across our two local authority areas, particularly as the Trust grows and benefits from the expertise and knowledge that other schools joining in the future will bring.

Collective Worship

"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven"

Matthew 5:16

At Sacred Heart, prayer and liturgy is at the heart of school life.  Every child takes part in a daily act of worship and is through a range of different forms, such as: daily prayers, whole school worships, class worships, key stage virtue worships and Mark 10 Mission worships. Our worships are both staff and pupil led, allowing all members of Sacred Heart to be included in, and lead, celebrating the Word.

Mass at Sacred Heart

Each Friday, children from our school attend mass at our local parish - Sacred Heart and St Patrick's Church in Sowerby Bridge. Parents, carers, family members and friends are all welcome to join every week.

During mass, children and staff read the readings of the day.

We are very grateful to Canon Larkin and the parish for your support which means we are able to travel each week!

Diocesan Singing Programme

We are proud to be part of the Diocese of Leeds School Singing Programme. Children across school receive weekly singing sessions delivered by an expert Choral Director from the Diocese, focusing on positive engagement with singing and supporting the Catholic life of the school through sacred music. The sessions offer an opportunity to worship through song as well as practical and incremental coverage of areas of the music curriculum - including notation - in a two-year curriculum framework developed by the Diocese, the National Schools Singing Programme and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
As a result of this, our pupils also have the opportunity to join one of the Diocese’s acclaimed after-school choirs, which offer an incredible opportunity to pursue a passion for singing and music. You can find online resources that support this work on the Schools Singing Programme’s YouTube channel (www.schoolssingingprogramme.org.uk). Our local Diocese choir is Huddersfield Boys and Girls Choirs - please contact office@dioceseofleedsmusic.org.uk for more information about joining.
On Wednesday 30th April 2025, our school Choir represented Sacred Heart at The Rotary Calderdale Choir Competition at Halifax Minster.
