Starting School
Starting school is an exciting milestone for your child and an important step for your family. At Sacred Heart Catholic Voluntary Academy, we aim to make the transition as welcoming and reassuring as possible, so children feel safe, valued and ready to learn from day one. Our caring staff work closely with families to support each child’s individual needs, helping them settle into school routines at a comfortable pace.
In the early days, children will begin to familiarise themselves with classroom expectations, learning activities and daily routines such as lining up, moving around the school and taking part in lessons. We understand that first days can be emotional, so we encourage parents to share any relevant information about their child’s preferences, comfort needs or concerns. Clear communication and a calm, supportive approach help children build confidence and develop positive relationships with adults and classmates.
We also recognise that families play a key role in helping children feel prepared. As your child starts school, you can support them by establishing consistent routines at home, practising simple independence skills such as putting on their coat and using their water bottle, and talking positively about school. If you have any questions, our team is here to help, and we will guide you through key dates, expectations and practical arrangements for a smooth start.
