I have been a Governor of Sacred Heart for almost three years and I have found it a challenging yet rewarding and interesting time. My previous work experience has been within the public sector ranging from meeting and serving customers to managing a large geographical spread team dealing with project suppliers. I have a passion for reading and have recently supported the school with the updating of the library with support from the Parish.
I have specific LINK responsibility for EYFS and Year 1 but also work closely with the Head and staff to support the school to ensure we improve as a whole year on year.
I have been a governor at Sacred Heart since being elected as a parent governor in March 2015. I am married to Julia, who volunteers for the school's PTFA. I have a son in Year 2 and a daughter in Reception. I worked as a secondary school teacher of French and English for 18 years in Kent, Yorkshire and
Lancashire, latterly combining my teaching role with the position of a union branch secretary in Rochdale before joining the National Union of Teachers full-time as a regional organiser.
I currently chair the Standards committee and sit on the Mission committee, with a focus on Teaching and Learning and Pupil Outcomes. I became a governor because I wanted to get to know the school my children attend and to offer any help my work and experience could provide to support and improve the school. I'm proud to be an active part of such a great community!
Appointed Parish Priest of Sacred Heart and St Patricks in 2015. Appointed Parish Priest of The Good Shepherd, 2016.
I am a foundation governor here at Sacred Heart. I am a former primary school teacher and head teacher, I therefore have extensive experience of working in catholic schools. In more recent times I have become a volunteer for CAFOD providing assemblies and workshops in all the deanery catholic schools- a role I thoroughly enjoy and which helped form my relationship with the school. I have a passion for high quality, meaningful catholic education; which I believe Sacred Heart provides and I am both proud and delighted to be part of the team!
I have been a foundation governor at Sacred Heart for about four years, fulfilling many different roles, the most recent being Health & Safety and Forest School. I have four daughters who all attended Sacred Heart, but only one still at school now, in year 13, which was my motivation in becoming a governor, to give ‘something back’ to Sacred Heart. I worked for 17 years in the public sector, in an engineering role, and since 1998 I have run my own business, fulltime, with the help of my wife, Julie, in the private rented housing sector. Working for myself allows me to manage my own time, thus giving me the flexibility to be able to contribute to life at Sacred Heart. Leisure time is either taken up with being ‘dads taxi’ or playing squash and trying to keep fit. I have really enjoyed the years of association with Sacred Heart and am pleased to be in a position to be able to make a positive contribution to the school.
