My name is Matthew Handley, I am a 4th dan black belt in karate, i gained my black belt in 2000 under the Vic Charles MBE, I have practiced karate for over 30 years and have been coaching for over 15 yrs.
During my time practicing karate I was lucky to represent England in the Kumite fighting section, under coaches Ticky Donovan OBE and his assistant Wayne Otto OBE. I am currently the England National Para Karate Coach, and have previously held a regional Kumite coaching role prior to taking a national position.
In 2016 I became a WKF Certified Kumite Coach and then in 2020 WKF Certified Kata Coach. I have coached at all levels including domestic, regional, national and international competitions and continue to do so to enable my athletes to become the best they can. I continue to strive to be the best coach I can be, I am passionate about learning the best skills and passing them on, I continue to push my own knowledge and development.
I am very passionate about coaching and helping people to achieve their goals and aspirations. I have a great belief that everyone should be able to take part in sport regardless of ability or disability. Sacred heart was the place where my karate club Halifax sport karate started in 2005 and also helped me to achieve my goal of representing England after using the ground and facilities for training to reach my goals. I now pass on my knowledge to all the young students of the school and help promote karate and sport in our local community.
